Mexican Chicken Burger

The inspiration for this recipe is my dad’s love for chicken burgers. I experimented to create the best chicken burger and this one does not disapoint in the flavor department. If you find yourself bored with the same boring burger then you must try this recipe. This burger is bursting with flavor from the cumin, smoked paprika, and cilantro. I love to serve mine on sweet potato toast. Thinly slice sweet potato and place into a toaster just like regualar toast. This is the perfect way to add in more nutrients. Yum. I can’t wait for you try this tasty mexican chicken burger.

Serves 5-6


2 tablespoons olive oil

1 pound ground chicken

1 tablespoon cumin

1/2 tsp onion powder

1 tsp smoked paprika

2 tablespoons chopped cilantro

1 tablespoon lime juice

2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped

1/4 cup salsa

2 tablespoons black beans

1 egg


  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, garlic, cumin, onion powder, paprika, cilantro, lime juice, egg, and salsa. Combine the mixture thoroughly.

  2. Fold in 2 tablespoons of black beans.

  3. Form into 5 to 6 burger patties.

  4. Heat the 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a grill pan. Grill the chicken patties for 6-7 minutes each side until cooked through.

  5. Serve the chicken burgers on hamburger buns. If you want to ditch the bun, you can serve on lettuce leaves or on top of sweet potato toast.

  6. Top with any of your toppings of choice below.

  • sliced avocado

  • jalepeno peppers

  • sliced red onion

  • pineapple slices

  • mango slices
